Newcomers Belgium

In the Page Playoffs in the lower half of the tournament, newcomers Belgium lost 5-3 to Slovenia in the first game of the day, but fought their way back to the final with a 17-5 demolition of Austria and then recorded a thrilling 7-6 win over Slovenia to nail down fifth place, a fine achievement for a team playing in its first European slowpitch event.

European Champion Great Britain

In the bottom of the sixth inning in the Grand Final at the 2010 European Slowpitch Championships, GB shortstop Steve Hazard lofted his second home run of the game over the left field fence, driving in Brett Gibbens and Emily Clifford in front of him, and suddenly the score was GB 19, Czech Republic 4, and it slowly dawned on the umpires and then the players that the game was over on the mercy rule and GB had won its seventh straight European Championship.
